Grass diseases mainly depend on the type of the weather. If the grass diseases are recognised in time it helps in the reduction of use of pesticides. This in turn helps in saving the environment and generate a financial advantage. The grass that is used frequently by general public can not be treated with chemicals as it causes harm to them. Most of the lawn grass diseases are caused because of the dead fungi and decaying material. These diseases may come in many shapes and forms.

Red thread, brown patch, pythium blight are some of the common lawn grass diseases that can be commonly found. Proper fertilization helps in keeping the grass healthy and resistant to lawn diseases. Strong grass needs a balanced fertilizer for the proper growth of the grass. Thatch is said to be a layer that partially decomposes the organic matter. If the thatch becomes thicker then it becomes a breeding ground for insects and also for diseases. Thatch also helps in preventing water and fertilizer to reach the grass roots and at times making it more hard to reach the soil. Lawn eration is one of the best ways of reducing thatch. Lawn eration of atleast once in a year is recommended for the proper growth of the lawn.

Proper watering of the grass helps in combating the lawn diseases. The grass should be watered at least six to eight inches down to gain a firm and deep foot hold. The grass should be watered in the early morning as many of the lawn diseases grow up in the moist and dark environment. The lawn mower blade should be kept sharp and high. Grass diseases ruin the appearance of the lawn and they are also not so easy to diagnose. It is advisable to maintain a record of treating the grass diseases with fertilizers, herbicides and watering frequency.

Proper turf management practices are available for preventing the serious damage to the grass. Pest control helps in reducing the use of fungicides.Leaf spot and melting out are the common destructive  diseases of blue grass. Leaf spot normally occurs in warm weather and can be easily recognised. Dead patches should be reseeded with a resistant variety if the lawns are dead from melting out. Some of the other major and common diseases that are observed in grass are fusarium blight, necrotic ring spot, rhizoctonia yellow patch, summer patch,sclerotinia dollar spot, powdery mildew,typhula blight, rust, stripe smut, red thread and fairy rings. Inorder to prevent all these diseases proper care should be taken at regular intervals and also we need to rotate activity zones and aerify soils inorder to prevent more damage and also encourage the plant growth.
